Hyundai Sonata Discontinued In India Owing To Poor Sales
South Korean automobile manufacturer, Hyundai has launched several popular products in India. They have always provided excellent value for money products to its customers. Their products are placed strategically to attract first time buyers as well as those looking for a premium option.
Hyundai offered its Sonata sedan amongst the premium segment for Indian market. The vehicle has not sold well and does not seem to have a future as of now. First generation of Sonata models sold well in India, however, future models have not witnessed similar fate.
Now the South Korean manufacturer has decided to discontinue its premium sedan from the Indian market. The current generation Sonata has not done particularly well in India, in terms of sales. The move will give the manufacturer opportunity to explore other opportunities with its existing line up of products.
The current generation Hyundai Sonata was offered with a single petrol engine, along with two transmission options:The luxury sedan was powered by a 2359cc, four cylinder petrol engine. It produced 198 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque output. This engine was mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and delivers fuel efficiency of 13.08 kpl.

Hyundai officials claimed they had ceased producing the Sonata sedan in India by December, 2014. The move was made to facilitate optimum production of its new hatchback Elite i20. South Korean manufacturer plans to introduce more vehicles in India and replacing models that are not doing well seems to be the way forward.
