2016 Shelby Mustang GT350R Reportedly Laps Nurburgring in Under 8 Mins

In latest news, the recently revealed Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R has lapped the famous Nurburgring in a time of 7:32.19.

This timing is 5 seconds faster than the Camaro Z/28's lap time of 7:37.40, if confirmed officially.

If official, the 2016 Shelby Mustang GT350R will be one second faster than the 997 Porsche 911 GT3 RS MKII, Ferrari 458 Italia, Koenigsegg CCR and the Porsche 911 GT2.

Powering the 2016 Shelby Mustang is a 5.2-litre V8 engine, that uses a flat plane crank, which delivers 500 hp and over 400 lb-ft of torque to the wheels.

The Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang is around 60 kg lighter than the Shelby GT350 which is equipped with the optional Track Pack. To keep the car as light as possible, air conditioning, stereo system, rear seats, reversing camera, trunk floorboard and carpet as well as the exhaust resonators had to be removed.

The car is fitted with lighter and stronger carbon fibre wheels as standard and Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang loses 6 kg for each wheel alone.
