American automobile giant is showcasing a lot of trust in the Indian market. Ford India is taking the ‘Make in India' campaign seriously and has decided to inaugurate its second manufacturing facility in India by the end of March, 2015.
Ford will be setting up its new facility in Sanand, Gujarat. It is most likely to be functional and will be inaugurated by March end. The manufacturer is keen to have its new facility inaugurated by the current Chief Minister of Gujarat, Anandiben Patel.
The American based manufacturer currently has its facility in Chennai. This facility takes care of both domestic as well as international demand of vehicles. Inclusion of this new facility in Gujarat is expected to boost sales, owing to increased manufacturing ability.
Ford's new facility in Sanand, Gujarat will primarily focus on manufacture of their upcoming products. This facility will be utilised for the manufacture of next-gen Figo hatchback and Figo Aspire compact sedan. Both of which are expected to launch in India anytime during this year.
The facility in Sanand, Gujarat will be capable of producing 2,40,000 vehicles on a yearly basis. Ford will also make use of this facility to build its engines and they will manufacture 2,70,000 engines annually. Overall they will have a total production capacity of 4,40,000 vehicles and 6,10,000 engines per year from two facilities.
In India, Ford currently offers the Figo hatchback, Classic and Fiesta sedan models. Their most popular vehicle in India and several other countries is the EcoSport compact SUV. Ford also offers a full sized SUV called the Endeavour.
