Fiat Halts Production Of 1.5-litre Diesel Engine Temporarily
Fiat India has temporarily halted the production of their 1.5-litre diesel engine. Enthusiasts have been awaiting the new diesel engine from Fiat for a while now. Currently, all Fiat India models sport a 1.3-litre diesel engine under the hood.
Currently, Fiat India provides its diesel engine to Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors. The 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine is a top-seller for the Italian manufacturer. Both Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki have to pay huge amounts for sourcing this engine.
The Italian automobile manufacturer plans on introducing an all-new 1.5-litre engine for Indian products. Fiat will be utilising the same 1.6-litre diesel engine and will downsize it to suit domestic usage. Unfortunately, the production of this new engine has been halted temporarily.
Currently, Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors is developing a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The new engine from Maruti is most likely to be introduced in several vehicles by early 2018. Engineers at Tata Motors will be introducing their 1.5-litre diesel engine from next year itself.
Fiat India currently does not sell a high volume of its own vehicles. The majority of its sales come from selling its diesel engine to Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki. With its sellers developing its own 1.5-litre diesel engines, it is evident that they would not purchase the new engine produced by Fiat.
