FIA Will Not Ban Alcohol Sponsorships
The European Alcohol Policy Alliance known as Eurocare had asked FIA to move away from Alcohol sponsorships, specially targeting the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix.
Eurocare is a group of non-governmental public health and social organisations, that works on prevention and reduction of alcohol-related harm in Europe.
At the moment, three teams have alcohol sponsorships-Williams with Martini, Force India with Smirnoff and Kingfisher, and McLaren with Johnnie Walker. Eurocare focused on the fact that the advert on cars flash every 5 seconds during the race coverage.
Jean Todt, the FIA President said that it is beyond the hands of FIA to ban such sponsorships. Strongly against drinking and driving, he said the FIA can help educate people against driving after drinking, but cannot ban sponsorships since every country has to do its job.
He said: "You cannot ban alcohol, it is not possible, but you can educate people not to drink and drive. So we are working very closely on that because we know it is an essential topic to be addressed."
