2015 Detroit Auto Show: Press Kits Up For Auction On eBay
Brace yourselves for the 2015 North American International Auto Show between January 12-25, 2015, which has officially kicked off in Detroit, Michigan.
As with any auto show around the world, there is a sense of excitement building amongst fans and enthusiasts who are eager to witness the unveiling of new car models and future technologies on showcase .
The last few years have seen auto shows emerging as ‘the' place to lay your hands on media press kits, which mostly enclose promo giveaways from the manufacturers such as scale models, pen drives, bags, etc.
I have personally attended numerous auto shows and events, and have come back home with several goodies. Incidentally, these events have also left me with piled up press releases in one corner, and a little collection of scale models in another. I take great pride in these goodies and have them splayed all over my house as collectors items.
Unfortunately, some so-called-enthusiasts are indulging in unethical activities and putting up these freely received goodies on sale on websites.
Acura, the luxury division of Japanese automaker Honda Motor Company globally unveiled the new Acura NSX. A day later, two NSX press kits are already up for auction on eBay.
The message reads:
"Available as an exclusive to select members of the media, this is the press kit for the next generation Acura NSX. Extremely limited edition, and includes jump drive with press information and photos, along with a heavy, solid stainless steel model of the vehicle. I've been doing auto shows for over 10 years, and this is without a doubt the coolest promo giveaway I have ever seen. Pictures are of a friends item, the one you get will be sealed and never opened. (They were only allowing one per person, and ran out rather quickly!)"
Do you think this practice should be encouraged or is there nothing wrong in auctioning of goodies? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
