Vehicles To Be Allowed Into Delhi On Alternate Days By Registration Number
Under pressure from the Delhi High Court, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has has announced that private vehicles with odd and even registration numbers will only be allowed to ply in the city on alternate days.
The new norms will come into effect from the January 1, 2016 and should hopefully bring down pollution levels in the world's most polluted city. The proposal is a response to the Delhi High Court's statement on Thursday which compared Delhi's air quality to being stuffed inside a gas chamber.
The new rules will not apply to CNG driven buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws and other public vehicles but will cover vehicles entering Delhi from other states too. The delhi government will bolster public transport like DTC buses and Metro services to cope with the commuter crush caused by the new directive.
