Delhi HC Asks Taxi Hailing Companies To Run On CNG Only

By Rajkamal

The Delhi High Court has asked app based taxi hailing companies like Ola and Uber to run their vehicles on CNG only. The court made it clear that companies such as Ola and Uber must comply with green regulations.

Justice Manmohan has described these app based taxi hailing services as a boon to customers and the Delhi government should lift the ban and allow these services in Delhi.

He said "Don't shut them out because you can't deal with technology", while hearing a plea by ANI Technologies, that owns Ola and TaxiForSure taxi hailing companies.

Delhi banned app based taxi hailing services after a girl was allegedly raped by a driver working for the Uber network.

The government since then has modified regulations to say that the app-based firms come under radio taxi rules. But Ola and Uber think otherwise. They say they are technology companies and not taxi operators, and come under the information technology law.
