Delhi Diesel Ban: NCR Could Witness Rush To Register Diesel Vehicles
After the National Green Tribunal's (NGT) ban on diesel vehicles that are above 2000cc, the NCR region could witness a rush to register diesel vehicles before the ban can come into effect, from January 1, 2016. This window of 15 days can see a lot of customers registering SUVs and luxury cars.
Cities like Chandigarh, Dehradun, and Jaipur could see an increase in registration numbers, as registering vehicles in these cities is the next best thing, provided the customers can manage a local address proof.
The Delhi-NCR makes up for about 7,000 to 8,000 units of luxury car sales in the country. Most of these buyers usually opt to register the vehicles in surrounding areas to save on taxes, and the ban will witness this trend increasing. Also, the ban on high-end luxury cars and SUVs above 2000cc will result in a loss to the Delhi government in terms of VAT.
A lot of vehicles will be affected due to this ban, and two companies that will be affected the most are Mahindra and Mercedes-Benz.
Will the ban help in reducing air pollution? Or was it a decision made with haste? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
