Upcoming Datsun Redi-Go India Testing Commences In Chennai
The Datsun Redi-Go compact hatchback commences road testing in India. The Redi-Go is expected to be launched in the Indian market by 2016. The Production ready model is expected to be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. Previously, Redi-Go was showcased as a concept in 2014.
Redi-Go is being developed on Renault-Nissan alliance's CMF-A platform, which is the same platform that Renault Kwid is built upon. In terms of size, both Redi-Go and the Kwid will be identical, however, styling and design will be very different.
Design wise, the Datsun Redi-Go will be similar to the concept model showcased during the 2014 Auto Expo. Features like the LED headlights and foglight will be omitted from the production model. Rear tail lights could be retained, however, not with the inclusion of LED lightings.
Powering the Redi-Go will be an all-new engine from Datsun, a 800cc, inline three-cylinder, petrol engine. The unit will produce 53.26bhp and 72Nm of peak torque, and fuel economy is expected to be in the range of 25 plus km/l. Datsun will pair the engine to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Datsun is confident that the Redi-Go will be a popular product in India and several other emerging markets. The Redi-Go will be locally manufactured and is expected to be priced competitively against the Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Alto, and the Hyundai Eon.
We are expecting Datsun to price its Redi-Go in the range Rs. 2.25 lakh to Rs. 3.35 lakh ex-showroom. Production of Redi-Go will be done at Nissan's Chennai facility and testing locally will intensify as launch date nears.
