Daimler India Start Production Of BharatBenz Buses In Chennai
Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has started production of BharatBenz buses in its factory in Chennai and the first bus rolled off the production line on Monday.
This bus manufacturing facility in Chennai was inaugurated in May this year, with an investment of INR 425 crore.
The BharatBenz buses that are manufactured here will be front engined vehicles, that will be used mainly for short distance travel that will target school, staff and tourist transportation purposes.
Vehicles with a gross weight of 9, 16 and above 16 ton range will be manufactured here in this new facility. The first bus that rolled off the production line from the factory here was a school bus.
Markus Villinger, the Managing Director of Daimler Buses India said, "It is a significant occasion for us as we start production of Made in India buses for the Indian market at our Oragadam plant. The buses are engineered to provide value to our customers and offer them suitable products with our two brand strategy."
