Chevrolet Spin To Be Launched In India Sooner Than Expected
Chevrolet has recently announced that it is shutting down its manufacturing unit in Indonesia. This means they will be focusing more on their India operations. General Motors had promised it would be introducing its Spin MPV in India by 2016.
In an attempt to boost sales in India, they could pre-pone the launch of their Spin MPV. Their products are not doing well in Indonesia and India would act as their new manufacturing hub. India could get its future vehicles prior to General Motors original launch plan.
The Spin MPV is powered by a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder common rail direct injection turbo diesel engine. It has been tuned to deliver 73.95 horsepower, along with 190 Nm of peak torque. This engine has been mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, we believe this will be the same engine offered in the Indian model as well.
Chevrolet's Spin has been recently spied testing on Indian roads, which means this MPV could be launched sooner than we expect. They currently offer their Enjoy MPV, which is not doing so well due to various reasons. The Spin is expected to change the fortunes for them in MPV segment of India.
The Spin is currently offered in Brazil, Thailand and Indonesia, and India is supposed to be the next destination. It is expected to be priced higher than their Enjoy MPV. Chevrolet Spin will have more features and safety equipment making it a lucrative buy.
Once launched in India the Spin by Chevrolet will have to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Honda Mobilio. There is a lot riding on this new vehicle and is expected to sell in better numbers than the Enjoy MPV.
