According to sources, the new BMW xDrive40e could enter production this April, and the production model might very well be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show.
The X5 will be the first of its kind Hybrid SUV to join the i3 and i8.
The X5 hybrid will have a 2.0-litre, 4 cylinder internal combustion engine, that will produce a 245 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque and an electric motor that will produce 95 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. An 8-speed gearbox will be mated to this hybrid engine.
When combined, the X5 hybrid will have 340 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque at its disposal. This should help the 2-ton SUV reach 100 km/h from a stand still in under 7 seconds.
The batteries which are stored in the luggage compartment will have a range of 32 km in pure electric mode and will also reach a top speed of 120 km/h in this mode.
If figures and calculations are right, the BMW X5 xDrive40e should return a fuel economy of around 78.4 mpg.
The Geneva Motor Show will take place between the 5th to 15th March 2015.
