BMW Wins 2015 Engine Of The Year Award For i8 Hybrid Engine
For three years in a row Ford's revolutionary 10-litre EcoBoost engine has been Engine of the Year award. For 2015 a new winner has finally emerged in the form of a German manufacturer.
BMW Group has won three awards including overall Engine of the Year award. Both BMW M3 and M4 won best engine in their class, while i8 hybrid sportscar took top honours.
The i8 hybrid sportscar gets the following powering from BMW. It is powered by an electric motor producing 131 horsepower powering front wheels. Rear wheels get power from a three cylinder engine developing 231 horsepower.
This hybrid engine has a range of 37 kilometres and can achieve a top speed of 120 kph purely from its electric motor. BMW has enabled charging from a regular power socket available in every household.
International Engine of the Year award consists of a panel of 65 auto journalists from around 31 countries. The award ceremony was held in Stuttgart, Germany.
