BMW India Plan To Launch i8 Sportscar By February, 2015
German luxury automobile manufacturer BMW has launched several new and refreshed models in India during 2014. Among them a popular vehicle that caught everyone's attention was their sportscar, which was showcased at 2014 Auto Expo.
We are talking about their environmentally friendly i8 hybrid sportscar. The German manufacturer had earlier promised to launch its primary 'i' model in India by the end of 2014. We believe that BMW's i8 will be offered in India by February, 2015.
The i8 is powered by a petrol and an electric motor, all power generated is provided to the rear wheels. Engineers at BMW have managed to keep weight at a minimum, owing to several carbon fibre components.
The petrol engine doing duty is a three cylinder turbocharged 1.5-litre mill. It produces 227.74 horsepower, along with 320 Nm of peak torque output. The electric motor generates an additional 129.15 horsepower, along with 250 Nm of peak torque.
BMW officials claim their i8 hybrid sportscar can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a matter of 4.4 seconds. The German engineers, however, have restricted its top speed to 250 km/h. In pure electric drive the vehicle can hit top speeds of 120 km/h.
The i8 hybrid sportscar will be offered in limited numbers and will be brought to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). It is BMW's flagship vehicle and we believe it will be priced at INR 2,00,00,000 ex-showroom. It will have no immediate competition and will be a must buy for environment conscious individuals.
