BMW i8 Hybrid Sports Car Wins 2015 World Green Car Award
BMW is taking its step into the future with their electric and hybrid vehicles. Their most popular vehicle in recent times is their i8 sportscar, which has been launched in several markets.
At the 2015 New York Auto Show, BMW i8 was awarded World Green Car of the Year. In the previous year this award was won by BMW's i3 green hatchback.
Final contenders running in contention for top honours were Volkswagen Golf GTE and Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in hybrid. The BMW i8 was the most apt choice for the innovation and tech involved in this hybrid sportscar.
There are certain criteria that make vehicles eligible for this award. The vehicle has to be new or completely revised and more than 10 units should have been sold.
Dr. Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Sales and Marketing BMW, expressed, "I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of the team in Munich."
He further added, "The BMW i8 represents the future with its unique lightweight construction and unrivalled connectivity. To win this award for the second year in a row shows that our BMW i products are truly leading the world."
BMW currently offers the i8 hybrid sportscar in India as well. The German luxury car manufacturer has priced it at INR 2,29,00,000 ex-showroom, India. There is no vehicle like the i8 on offer in Indian market.
