BMW i8 Could Be Launched By February, 2015 In India
German luxury automobile manufacturer has stepped into the hybrid era of vehicles. BMW had showcased and launched its i8 hybrid plug-in vehicle in several countries. They promised to bring the sports hybrid to India as well.
The i8 was scheduled to launch in India during the end of 2014. It was showcased at the beginning of the year at 2014 Auto Expo, which was held in Delhi. They have, however, delayed launch and it is now slated for February, 2015.
The German engineers have provided a conventional three cylinder 1.5-litre engine. It is boosted with twin turbo technology to achieve optimum performance. BMWs gasoline engine produces 231 bhp, along with 320 Nm of peak torque.
It is a proper sports car and power is provided to only the rear wheels. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Major attraction of this vehicle is that it is an electric plug-in hybrid sports car.
The electric motor delivers power to the front wheels through a 2-stage automatic system. BMW have provided a 5kWh lithium-ion battery pack that stores electricity. This electric motor solely produce an additional 131 bhp. BMW i8 boasts of a combine output of 362 bhp and 570 Nm of peak torque.
The German manufacturer claims its i8 can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a matter of 4.4 seconds. BMW engineers have provided their plug-in hybrid sports car with driving modes, such as Comfort, Sport, Eco Pro. At the most efficient driving, owners will achieve fuel efficiency figures of 39 kpl.
We are expecting BMW to price its i8 plug-in hybrid sports at INR 2,00,00,000 ex-showroom. It will have no immediate competitors in India and will be the German manufacturers flagship offering within the sub-continent. We will provide more details closer to launch date of the i8 sports car.
