Govt To Soon Unveil Programme To Develop New National Highways

A programme to develop new national highways with a likely focus on connecting border areas will be unveiled soon by the central government.
Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Transport, Roads and Highways said, "We are going to announce 'Rashtriya Mahamarghs' (national highways) under the 'Bharat Mala' programme soon."
He said that the government wants to connect each district of the country with national highways, under the Bharat Mala programme.
Gadkari said, "Under Bharat Mala project, we will focus on the setting up roads in border districts. We are working on border roads under Bharat Mala project."
He also said that the government wants to develop tourism and religious tourism oriented roads aside from port connectivity.
