ARAI Asks Volkswagen For Emission Test Details In India
Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has asked Volkswagen India for emission test details, to determine if the German carmaker has manipulated emission tests in India, as it did in the US.
Rashmi Urdhwareshe, the director of ARAI told PTI that they have sought details from Volkswagen and are waiting for results. Arai is yet to decide if they will pick up random samples to check.
The director said that ARAI will work as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
ARAI was asked to inquire if Volkswagen, the German based carmaker has manipulated emission result is India, as it did in the US by Rajan Katoch, the Heavy Industries Secretary.
A spokesperson for Volkswagen India commented saying that investigations are still running.

Volkswagen fit software into its cars to help manipulate emission tests in the US. The cars were found to pollute 40 times higher than allowed in the US. The company now faces a fine of USD 18 billion. Also, the carmaker admitted that 11 million cars worldwide were fitted with this software.
