Mahindra has launched the 2015 Thar CRDe facelifted version in the Indian market. The company has given one of India's most capable off-roaders a major change externally and internally, keeping the vehicle's purpose in mind.
Targeting youngsters and off-roading enthusiasts, Mahindra has made changes that would make the mighty off-roader a good city dweller too.
So what makes this vehicle so special and stand out compared to the rest? Here are 15 stand out features of the 2015 Mahindra Thar CRDe:
1. New Front And Rear Bumpers
The major upgrade the new Thar CRDe gets are new front and rear bumpers. These bumpers wrap around the front of the vehicle, giving the Thar a good upmarket feel.
2. New Wheel Arches
The wheel arches are new as well, and are wider that the previous generation Thar. They have the blinkers integrated in them and also blend in well with the bumpers. In addition, there's enough clearance for the wheels and suspension travel to tackle tough off-roading conditions.
3. New Side Footsteps
The footsteps are redesigned for more practical yet off road use. The company has chosen to go with a solid bar instead of the aluminium side footstep.
4. Re designed Canopy
The canopy of the Thar is re designed as well to take away the boxy feeling the old Thar had and to keep the noise level low and also to make the AC more efficient inside.
5. Clear Lens Headlamps
The clear lens headlights throw good light on the road, thus increasing visibility. Old school glass headlights mean that the bulbs can be upgraded as well.
6. Powerful Engine
The engine in the Thar is a highlight. The 2498cc, turbocharged CRDe diesel engine that produces 105 bhp and 247 Nm of peak torque. It offers very good power, torque and refinement.
7. Unmatched 4X4 Capability:
The 2015 Mahindra Thar CRDe facelift features a new mechanical locking rear differential, that transfers power to the wheel that needs it the most during extreme off-roading, without the driver's intervention. Also, a 44 degree approach angle, 27 degree departure angle and a ground clearance of 200 mm, which makes it the most capable off-roader available in India.
8. Dual Tone Dashboard:
Stepping inside, the Thar receives dual tone finish on the dashboard to carry on the upmarket feel inside the vehicle as well.
9. Redesigned Instrument Cluster
The instrument cluster is now a 3-pod console, which has a speedometer in the middle with digital odo reading, An RPM meter on the right and a meter on the left that gives the engine temperature reading, fuel gauge and other useful warnings.
10. Redesigned AC Vents
The air conditioning vents have been redesigned to make the interior look more luxurious and blend in with the dashboard.
11. New Steering Wheel
Mahindra has ditched the plain steering wheel and chosen the wheel from the Bolero, which offers more grip and keeps with the interior theme.
12. Re designed Floor Console
The floor console gets more civilised compared to the previous generation model and has been re designed with cup holders, which were missing or rather not provided in the previous generation vehicle.
13. 2-din Music Player Provision
The dashboard of the new Thar CRDe has a provision to install a 2-DIN music player. That's music to the ears!
14. Wider Seats:
The seats are wider and offer more comfort. This is very much needed keeping in mind that the Thar is a capable long distance commuter as well.
