Toyota Plans A Mid Size Sedan For India
The Japanese car maker Toyota is planning to introduce a mid size sedan for the Indian market to compete with Honda's best seller, the City.
The company has already started development towards the new car and it is expected to hit the market by the year 2016. The car will be based on the Etios platform and is code named the Etios Core.
After extensive surveys and studying the market, Toyota have decided to develop this car and place it in between their entry level sedan the Etios and their top selling sedan the Corolla Altis.
Being a leader worldwide in the automobile industry, their entry level sedan the Etios did not sell well in India. Likewise for the Liva. The Innova and the Fortuner how ever have been very successful in the Indian market.
In recent times, the midsize sedan segment has had tough competition from companies like Hyundai and Maruti. Maruti is trying to recapture the segment with their recently launched Ciaz and the Verna stands in the second spot in terms of best sellers.
The mid size sedan market saw a dip in sales as more customers prefered compact SUVs like the Ford Ecosport. Now, the experts say that there will be a turnaround for the sedan market after petrol prices have dropped and more customers are opting away from bigger diesel powered SUVs.
