Tata Jaguar Land Rover Develops 'Self-Learning Vehicle'
Jaguar Land Rover is owned by Indian automobile giant Tata Motors. The collaboration is always looking for innovations to be incorporated into their passenger vehicles. This time the alliance has developed a 'Self Learning Vehicle'.
The engineers will be utilising artificial intelligence systems in their 'Self Learning Vehicle'. The system will constantly learn the drivers driving habits, it will then use it in an AACC (Auto Adaptive Cruise Control). The ‘Smart Assistant' system will also access your calendar and inform you of prior appointments.
Dr Wolfgang Epple, Director of Research and Technology for Jaguar Land Rover, explains, "The aim of our self-learning technology is to minimise driver distraction, which will help reduce the risk of accidents."

He further added, "Presenting the driver with information just at the right time whilst driving will reduce both cognitive distraction and the need for the driver to look away from the road to scroll through phone lists, or adjust mirrors, temperature or seat functions while on the road."
The system will be able to recognise who is sitting at the driver's seat and will constantly learn their driving habits. The 'Self Learning Vehicle' system will then inform the driver about traffic conditions, weather and calendar. It will take care of many daily driving chores, without distracting the driver.
The system developed by Tata Jaguar Land Rover will identify the drivers smartphone and prepare the vehicle for the individual. It will open the door, adjust the mirrors, steering wheel and drivers seat. It will also set the vehicles temperature to the individual's personal preference. It will also smartly figure out if it is raining and will change settings accordingly.
Dr Wolfgang Epple also said, "Up until now most self-learning car research has only focused on traffic or navigation prediction. We want to take this a significant step further and our new learning algorithm means information learnt about you will deliver a completely personalised driving experience and enhance driving pleasure."
