SsangYong Rexton RX6 Variant To Be Introduced

Mahindra's South Korean subsidiary SsangYong is said to working on introducing a new variant of the Rexton SUV. The New Rexton RX6 variant of the SUV will remain mechanically the same, as it will continue to be powered by the same 2.7-litre, 5-cylinder, turbocharged Mercedes-Benz engine, though in a lower state of tune.

The engine will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission that will transfer power to all four wheels.

The new Rexton RX6 variant will be equipped similarly to the top-end automatic RX7 variant. This means it will come with features such as memory function for driver seat (which has eight electrically adjustable seating position) and wing mirrors, sunroof with sunblind, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers among others. Luxury features such as premium leather upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel, LED daytime-running lights and LED tail-lamps.

SsangYong Rexton SUV is currently sold in two variants - RX5 and RX7. The former gets 162 bhp and 340 Nm of torque from the 2.7-litre engine, with the five speed manual driving only the rear wheels. The RX7 variant, meanwhile, gets 184 bhp and 402 Nm of torque from the same engine and also features a 6-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive.

The new Rexton RX6 would then be a trim level in between the existing variants, with the feature of set ot the top-end variant and the manual transmission and rear wheel drive configuration of the RX5.

Mahindra is also expected to launch a Rexton 2.0L diesel engine powered variant with 5-speed automatic transmission.

It is not known yet when SsangYong will launch the Rexton RX6 manual transmission variant. Since its introduction in India the company has sold only 3,600 units and Mahindra hopes the new variant will help in that direction.

SsangYong Rexton models are priced at INR 18.52 lakhs and INR 20.71 lakhs for the RX5 and RX7 variants (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively.
