Renault India Planning To Launch Lodgy MPV
The MPV segment in India is heating up fast with two new launches on the way. Honda will be launching its Mobilio first on 23rd July. Japanese car maker Datsun will be coming a little later with its GO+ MPV. The current segment leader is Maruti Suzuki's Ertiga MPV, which has been the choice of many.
Now French manufacturer wants to join the party with its Lodgy MPV for India. The Lodgy is sold in most markets under the Dacia badge, just as the Duster. Renault's Duster has witnessed success and appreciation in India and the French will have high hopes from its MPV offering.
The Lodgy by Renault does not look like a car and resembles more of a van. It has been caught testing several times this month in Chennai, India. The MPV by the French car manufacturer looks unique and distinctive. It has a love it or hate it appeal, according to what we see.

Renault had earlier in the year confirmed they would introduce a MPV and new hatchback for India. However, they plan to launch these new vehicles in 2015 and not before that. It will be manufactured at its Oragadam facility, which is shared by Renault-Nissan.
The French car maker will introduce the lodgy with a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The engineers will offer two tunes, first a 83 bhp version and second will be a more powerful 108 bhp model. The engines will be paired to a choice of 5-speed or 6-speed manual gearbox. There is no news of a petrol engine and the Lodgy may get a miss.
When launched Renault Lodgy will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Nissan Evalia, Chevrolet Enjoy and the soon to be launched Honda Mobilio and Datsun GO+ MPV. We expect the French manufacturer to offer several goodies in its MPV. The Lodgy is expected to cost between INR 8,00,000 to INR 10,00,000 ex-showroom.
