Porsche 718 Entry Level Car Set For A 2016 Launch
Porsche is rumoured to be working on a new entry level model that will be placed below the Boxter. German auto website, Autobild now reports that the said car is called 718 and is set for a 2016 launch.
Furthermore, the report states that the Porsche 718 will be a spiritual successor of sorts to the Porsche 550 Spyder from the 1950s.
The Porsche 550 Spyder was known for its extremely light weight construction, for its times. Hence, engineers at Porsche would be working hard to achieve a very high power to weight ratio.

This would be important because being an entry level vehicle, the 718 would be powered by small displacement engines, expected to be a 2.0-litre and a 2.5-litre flat four units, delivering power in the range of 300-350 horsepower.
Both manual and automatic transmission would be offered, but an all-wheel drive version is out of question.
Weight savings are also expected to be achieved by cutting down on all, but the most necessary convenience features.
The Porsche 718, with a Lotus Exige-rivaling curb weight, Autobild speculates, will cost about €39,000 and would be revealed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
