McLaren Confirm Alonso And Button For 2015 F1 Championship
2014 was not the best year for many top teams in Formula One. Teams like Scuderia Ferrari, Lotus and Red Bull Racing suffered tremendously. The Mercedes-powered vehicles dominated the entire season, however, McLaren was not among the top runners once again.
The McLaren Formula One car was driven by veteran Jenson Button and his rookie teammate Kevin Magnussen. The British born driver outclassed his rookie teammate on several occasions. At the end of 2014 season the team decided to change their driver line-up and were confused about whom to keep and whom to let go.
The Woking-based team has signed ex-Ferrari ace Fernando Alonso and have now confirmed Jenson Button for 2015 championship. McLaren has not made a formal announcement but will be making it soon. The team was earlier contemplating retaining Magnussen, however, it seems like he would get the role of test driver for the moment.
Both drivers Alonso and Button will be new to the McLaren as it will be powered by a Honda engine. For 2015 Formula One championship the team has decided to use Honda equipment instead of Mercedes. The Japanese manufacturer will not be making a full fledged entry, it will only provide engines to teams.
The Spaniard claims he is hungry for a third title and believes with Honda's engine, he could unsettle the powerful Mercedes vehicles. Alonso has signed a deal for two years with McLaren, however, there is a clause in which he could leave earlier if he is not satisfied with the overall performance.
