Maruti Suzuki Commences Ciaz Production

By Ajinkya

The most successful four wheeler manufacturer in India is automobile giant Maruti Suzuki. At the recent 2014 Auto Expo held in New Delhi they revealed a few of its products that they would be launching in India. The Japanese auto giant had showcased concept vehicles for Asia specifically.

The Ciaz sedan garnered loads of attention and Maruti Suzuki had announced it will be launching soon in India. The sedan is set to replace the SX4 in India, which has not been performing as intended. The Ciaz is now in its final stage and production has begun; they have also begun testing the vehicle on Indian roads.

The Ciaz is rumoured to launch during the upcoming festive season in India. When launched it will be available in both petrol as well as diesel engine options. A 1.6-litre petrol powered engine will generate maximum power of 103 bhp, while the diesel engine will be a 1.3-litre mill producing maximum power of 88 bhp.

The design of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is unique and modern. It looks more premium and elegant than anything that the Japanese manufacturer has offered in India. Maruti Suzuki has not witnessed success with products in the more premium segments. They had launched their Kizashi in India that had no buyers, even though it was an excellent product. However, people could not associate Maruti Suzuki with premium vehicles.

The Ciaz draws inspiration from Kizashi, Maruti Suzuki will be providing a premium interior as seen with its Kizashi. There are slight design cues from the SX4 too, minimal however, and will be appreciated by most. The Japanese automobile giant is betting high on its Ciaz sedan in India.

When launched the Ciaz will compete against the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento. We expect it to be priced aggressively and closer to its competition. The Ciaz sedan will be priced between INR 7,00,000 to 9,00,000 ex-showroom, when it launches.
