Mahindra XUV500 - Making Of The SUV In Discovery Channel Inside Out
Mahindra Scorpio and Bolero models have for long been the Indian automaker's bread and butter. These affordable and capable vehicles are some of the best selling SUV models in the country. But for markets outside India Mahindra needed a new vehicle that was modern and had a host of new technological features.
The model that came out of this requirement was the XUV500, in September 2011. The XUV500 was Mahindra's first truly global model and its USP was it large and muscular design which according to Mahindra is inspired from a Cheetah and its fully loaded feature package.

Initially offered in W6 and W8 variants the XUV500 offers plenty of useful luxury and electronic features, which are usually found in SUVs higher up the price ladder. For example, the W8 variant provides GPS navigation with touch screen display, six airbags, Electronic stability program (ESP), Hill Hold & Hill Descent control and plenty more. The SUV is now available in a new W4 variant that retains some of the best features of the XUV500 and excludes a few selected ones so that is available at a more affordable price.
This has helped Mahindra XUV500 to become perhaps the most popular SUV in its segment. Not just in India, but even outside the country, such as in South Africa and a few European countries.
Thus, to a large extent Mahindra did realise its dream of launching a global model with the XUV500.
Recently, Discovery Channel featured the XUV500 in its Inside Out show that shows the making of Mahindra's most advanced SUV. If you missed watching the show on TV, Mahindra has released a short edit version of the show on its YouTube channel which you can watch below.
