Key Automakers To Introduce Android Auto In Upcoming Cars
Audi, GM, Honda, Hyundai and Volvo have announced that they will be incorporating Android Auto into their future models. These carmakers are all members of the OAA (Open Automotive Alliance), a group founded recently to bring Android to cars.
This announcement comes soon after the launch of Apple's CarPlay. Both systems will allow users access to normally-used apps through the car's infotainment system.
Android Auto will allow seamless integration of Android apps using the car's interior displays, and will help make driving safer since the driver can operate the system using the car's regular infotainment controls. Now a driver need not be distracted by ‘tapping' or ‘swiping' a smartphone while driving, and can instead use voice commands to control the system.
An built-in safety feature of Android Auto is that all text heavy and multimedia content will be disabled while the car is travelling. Drivers can also easily switch back to the car's standard infotainment system at will, though Android Auto is capable of displaying both car information and its own content simultaneously.

Android Auto will allow users access to Google Search, Google Maps, Google Play Music, and more, with all apps controllable by voice or through the steering wheel controls. This brilliant new system, one hopes, must reach India soon, since we are all getting addicted to using smartphones while driving, a very unsafe habit that is putting lives in danger every day.
