Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has launched the all-new Elite i20 in the country today. The i20 is now in its second generation, distinguished by its new Fludic Sculpture 2.0 exterior design philosophy and all-new interior.
Prices for the Elite i20 start at INR 4.98 lakh for the petrol Era variant, going up to INR 7.8 lakh for the top-spec diesel Asta variant (ex-showroom Bangalore prices). The complete price list is listed at the end of the story.
The story continues on the next slide.
Hyundai claims improved driving dynamics and reduced NVH levels, and says that the Elite i20 will "set a new standard for ride and handling."
The second-gen Fluidic design philosophy has resulted in a rather good looking package - key elements include the large hexagonal front grille, swept-back headlamps, and a new lower slit that houses the trapezoidal fog lamps. The car also gets 2-tone, 16-inch wheels, chrome finish on door handles, "3-step" wraparound tail lamps and a black C-pillar.
In the cabin, the car features a multifunction steering wheel, 2 DIN audio system with 1 GB internal memory (a first-in-segment), rear AC vents and a console armrest with a storage box. A second first-in-segment feature is the new multi-information display, termed the Advanced Informative Supervision Cluster.
Under the hood, the Elite i20 retains the two engine options of its predecessor, the 1.2 Dual VTVT Kappa petrol engine and the 1.4 CRDi diesel. The petrol unit produces the same 83 PS and 11.7 kgm of torque, and the diesel retains the same specifications as well, with 90 PS and 22.4 kgm of torque on tap.
Safety-wise, the new i20 gets dual airbags, ABS, "smart pedal" for panic braking, rear parking sensors and a rear parking camera.
