South Korean based manufacturer Hyundai had recently launched their redesigned hatchback in the form of the Elite i20. It was launched to replace its predecessor, which had gone through minimal changes since it was launched.
Hyundai have now confirmed that they will be introducing a crossover based on its Elite i20. It is expected to be launched in India by early next year. There have been several instances where a crossover was caught testing in Chennai, we believe it was Hyundai's Elite i20 crossover model.
The Elite i20 crossover will be powered by similar engines in their hatchback. On offer will be a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which will be paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. It will produce 82 bhp, along with 115 Nm of peak torque. Hyundai claims fuel efficiency figures provided by ARAI of 18.6 kpl.
It will also get a 1.4-litre diesel mill, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The engineers have extracted 89 bhp, along with 220 Nm of peak torque. The manufacturer claims fuel efficiency figures of 22.54 kpl certified by ARAI.
Hyundai is not expected to offer their Elite i20 crossover with an automatic gearbox. It will provide its vehicle with several other unique selling points that will attract Indian buyers.
The South Korean manufacturer will provide LED daytime running lights to the crossover, that are not present in the hatchback. It will also get side body cladding, roof rails, skid plates, new alloy wheel design, along with projector headlights.
Hyundai will launch their Elite i20 crossover early next year. Once launched it will face competition from Fiat Avventura, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross. Pricing has not been disclosed, however, expect it to be costlier than its hatchback version.
