Honda Recall Accord In India Too

By Ajinkya

Honda had earlier in the year showcased its updated version of Accord sedan at the 2014 Auto Expo held in New Delhi. The Japanese manufacturer will be recalling the Accord globally, which was sold ten years ago.

The Accord sedan was sold in India too and will be also included in the recall. The recall is due to an issue with the airbag, which could explode in certain situations. The Accord sold in the first half of last ten years will be affected by the recall.

Globally Honda will be recalling over two million Accords. Honda explains that the airbag issue was with sedans manufactured between August, 2000, and December, 2005. The Japanese manufacturer sold the Accord in India from 2001 to 2013. They will be launching a new version of the Accord in India soon.

In the last five years, Honda has recalled globally approximately 7.6 million units. The current recall is due to a fault with the airbags produced by Takata Corp. of Japan. The same company provides airbags for Toyota, Nissan and BMW.

The same airbag by Takata was installed in the international Jazz and its CR-V models. However, these vehicles were not available in India at the time but will be recalled in other international markets. Nissan will also not be recalling vehicles in India as they entered the market at a latter stage.

The exact number of vehicles will be confirmed at a later date and the procedure for the recall will also be announced soon. BMW is also planning to order a recall, however, the predicament is being assessed and action will be taken.
