Hindujas Roll Out London's First Pure Electric Buses
The Hinduja Group is ready to roll out their all new electric buses in London. This introduction was welcomed by Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London. These British-built buses are single decker vehicles.
The buses were manufactured by Optare, a part of the Hinduja Group, that is based in Sherburn, North Yorkshire. This project is partly funded by the Department of Transport's (DfT) Green Bus Fund.
Currently, there are four buses being tested. These zero emission buses have a range of approximately 100 miles and a flat battery will take 5 hours to charge or can be charged in two hours with the quick charge option.

Mayor Johnson said that the people will notice that vibrations are much less and sound free compared to regular gas burning buses. He also said that since these buses have zero emission, the air quality will be much better.
These four buses which are being tested will provide useful information as to whether this technology can cope with the intense urban usage in a city like London.
The manufacturer's test revealed that even though these vehicles cost more than regular diesel buses, low running charges and low maintenance would lead to a break even point soon.
The introduction of these electric buses is one of the many steps taken to make London eco-friendly. The city also has hydrogen operated buses which have zero emission - the fleet has around 800 buses making it Europe's largest hybrid fleet. London will have more than 1,700 hybrid buses by 2016.
