Ford Launches New Figo; India Launch By 2015

Ford had earlier in the year revealed their plans of launching a refreshed version of its Figo hatchback. The American based manufacturer had also showcased its Figo KA hatchback in several markets.

It has now been confirmed, Ford has launched the new and refreshed version of the Figo in Brazil. The American manufacturer calls the hatchback the KA in Brazil and is available in two options SE and SEL. Ford KA SE costs INR 9,52,374 in Brazil, while the KA SEL costs INR 10,76,164 there.

The KA hatchback by Ford will replace the Figo, which is currently on sale in India. The American manufacturer is expected to launch the new Figo in India by early 2015. There are also plans to launch the Figo sedan soon after it.

Ford have provided the 2014 KA with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. It will produce 107 Nm of peak torque, along with a maximum power of 85 bhp. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, powering the front wheels. Ford will provide only a cosmetic upgrade to the Indian Figo, no mechanical changes are expected under the bonnet.

The 2015 Figo by Ford borrows several design elements from the Figo concept which was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo held in New Delhi. The Brazil model has less to no chrome embellishment, however, the Indian spec hatchback will sport chrome. The headlights have been tweaked and are not as sharp as the concept model.

When the 2015 Ford Figo is launched in India, it will go up against the likes of Fiat Punto Evo, Volkswagen Polo, Maruti Suzuki Swift and Honda Jazz. We expect the hatchback will be offered in India with dual airbags as standard safety equipment. ABS, ESC and other safety options will be available on the top of the range model.
