Chevrolet has reached a big number in sales with the Beat, selling more than one million cars worldwide.
The Chevrolet Beat, as known in India, is also called the Spark in foreign markets. This sales figure shows the growing acceptance of Chevrolet's small car lineup attracting more customers to the brand around the world.
Arvind Saxena, the President and Managing Director of General Motors India said that the Chevrolet Beat, one of the most fuel-efficient diesel hatchbacks in India, has been appreciated for its technology and is increasingly selected by younger buyers both in India and abroad.
Following its huge success in India, the Chevrolet Beat was launched in other parts of the world as well, added Saxena.
The Beat was launched in India in 2009. It continues to be one of India's most efficient diesel hatchbacks with a mileage of 25.44 kpl. The hatchback is available with both petrol and diesel engines, and has sold more than 178,000 units in India alone.
Although a small car, the Beat is equipped with steering-mounted audio controls, height adjustable driver's seat and a new silver interior theme.
The goal for GM from the beginning was to create a revolution in size and design despite the restrictions of it being a small car.
Presently, the Chevrolet Beat is sold in 71 markets around the world, selling the most units in South Korea, followed by the United States and Mexico.
GM India recently started export of the Beat from its Talegaon manufacturing plant to Chile in South America. More export markets are under consideration at present.
The Beat, along with other Chevrolet small car lineup, also attracts the youngest buyers to the brand. This year, Chevrolet small car sales have increased to more than 9 percent for car buyers under the age of 35.
Earlier this year, Chevrolet sold its 3 millionth unit of the Cruze globally.
