New BMW X5 xDrive 30d Launched In India
BMW's all-new 2014 X5 SUV was launched today in Pune. The flagship SUV of the German manufacturer is going to cost buyers INR 70,90,000. The SUV will initially only be available in the xDrive 30d Pure Design Experience trim - other variants will follow.
The new SUV has an imposing front end with the large ‘kidney' grille occupying prime position. New adaptive LED headlamps and LED fog lights provide the lighting while titanium-look moulding accentuates the lower airdams. The tail lamps have gotten bigger too. However, the redesign can best be termed as evolutionary, rather than revolutionary.
The latest X5 features a twin-turbo, 2993cc, in-line 6-cylinder engine that puts out 258 horsepower at 4000 rpm, while the torque output of the engine is a healthy 560 Nm that is produced between 1500 and 3000 rpm. Gearbox-wise, it's an 8-speed Steptronic Sport Transmission that does duty in the X5.
Inside, the X5 gets the expected mile-long list of goodies, including a panoramic sunroof, 4-zone climate control, ambient lighting in three colours, and much more. Occupants will travel in utmost safety too, with features like Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), run-flat tyres, and airbags for the front and rear passengers, head airbags for the front and rear, and side airbags for the driver and passenger.
Only time will tell how the X5 will perform against rivals like the Audi Q7 and the Mercedes M-Class. But judging by first impressions, this handsome SUV seems set to sell in decent numbers, something BMW will be counting on.
