The All-New Volvo XC90 Is Volvo’s Cleanest SUV Yet
SUVs are considered to be most polluting in the passenger car segment. Going green with these vehicles is not really a practical idea. Volvo though, has managed a solution. The Swedish manufacturer has brought an all new engine line up to power their all-new XC90 SUV.
At the top of the engine lineup will be the all new hybrid T8 drivetrain. This 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder Drive-E engine is combined with an 80 horsepower electric motor. The petrol motor is supercharged to give the SUV strong low end grunt and good top end performance.
When you choose hybrid mode, the SUV will have instant torque going to your wheels, to get you moving instantly. The electric motor powers powers the rear wheels while the front wheels get their power from the petrol engine. When the battery is fully charged, the electric motor will have a range of 45 km.

This inturn makes this SUV cut down on emissions but still provides 400 horsepower, with the petrol and electric engines combined. This combination emits just 60 g/km of CO2, making it the cleanest SUV from Volvo.
Apart from this T8 hybrid engine, there are optional diesel and petrol engines available. The D4 turbocharged engine produces 190 horsepower while the D5 makes 225 horses. They give best-in-class fuel economy as well.
Apart from the above, there are two petrol engines available: a supercharged T6 that has 320 horses under the hood and a 254 horsepower, turbocharged T5 unit. Releasing in foreign markets this August, the stunning new XC90 should become a strong contender in the SUV category. We hope it makes it here soon.
