The electric motor and the petrol engine work together, with the petrol engine supported with a high performance lithium ion battery. The twin-turbo, six-cylinder petrol engine produces 320 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. The electric motor gives an additional 54 horsepower while overtaking or when needed without any additional fuel consumption.
In the hybrid performance mode, the results are astonishing. The car accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. The combined system produces 500 Nm of torque. The car can be driven in pure electric mode for 60 kms. The electric battery charges itself on every run and while applying the brakes.
This hybrid is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The car is equipped with the most comprehensive technology to reduce emissions to the maximum. Using the driving Experience switch, the driver can choose between different modes depending on the conditions. In the ECO PRO mode, the car is set for maximum fuel efficiency whereas in sport or sport+ mode, it is performance-oriented.
BMW brings the ConnectedDrive to the rear seats with the two newly designed 23.3 cm colour screens and a personal iDrive controller.
The interiors of this car feature rear seats that have foldable tables attached to the back of the front seats. The rear seats have acres of room and they get a massage function.
While BMW is certainly not looking at volume sales for the ActiveHybrid 7, it will cater to the luxury upmarket segment, and the country's first luxury hybrid car will certainly do no harm to the German carmaker's green credentials.
