623 Marcopolo Tata Buses Needed Under JnNURM Scheme
India's most popular brand of automobiles Tata Motors has successfully launched its latest compact sedan, the Zest. They also offer several other products, both in India and international markets.
The Indian automobile giant manufactures cars, commercial vehicles, buses, trucks and more. Tata Motors also produces its Marcopolo buses, which are used mainly for public transport. Now the JnNURM scheme requires 623 of these buses for various State transport divisions.
Currently there are over 60,000 Tata Marcopolo buses functional within India. Some global markets also use a similar bus for public transport. This means the standard of the bus is on par with global standards.
Tata motors will provide 270 buses to Assam State Transport corporation. Meghalaya Urban Development Authority and Calcutta State Transport Corporation will get 120 Marcopolo buses each under the scheme.
Tripura Urban Transport Company Limited will get 73 buses, while Chhattisgarh Naya Raipur Development Authority will have 40 vehicles for them. Tata Motors has also bagged itself a JnNURM-II scheme for their urban buses. It is rumoured that the Indian manufacturer has bagged an order of 2,700 of its urban buses.
Tata Motors ED (commercial vehicles) Ravi Pisharody, commented, "These buses are manufactured at Tata Marcopolo Motors Limited world-class facility in Dharwad and Lucknow, with state-of-the-art technologies and expertise in systems for bodybuilding and bus body design, conforming to international standards in quality and safety as well as 'roll-over tests' as mandated by the Urban Development Ministry."
