WaterCar Panther: A Jeep Based Amphibious Vehicle
WaterCar calls itself the makers of the world's fastest amphibious vehicles, but we will not take that too seriously. Nevertheless, their newest vehicle, the Panther, looks like a fun vehicle, that can provide not just the ability to go boating, but also do some mild off roading.
At
first
glance
WaterCar
Panther
could
be
mistaken
for
a
modified
Jeep.
You
would
not
be
totally
wrong
though
because
WaterCar
has
based
the
Panther's
design
on
the
Jeep
CJ8.
In
fact,
it
says,
several
aftermarket
parts
meant
for
the
Jeep
CJ8
will
fit
the
Panther
as
well.

There
is
also
a

at
the
end
of
the
slide.
The Panther uses a Honda sourced 250 HP, 3.7 liter V6 V-Tec engine. On the water a Panther Jet takes care of propulsion.
On road power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 4 speed manual transmission.
The wheels are retracted using hydraulics
Top speed for the Panther on water is 38 knots or 70 km/h
On land the vehicle can achieve a top speed of 128 km/h
Upon entering water the vehicle will transform into a jet boat in 15 seconds.
The vehicle's shell is partly built from fiberglass, which WaterCar says, is extremely durable and lightweight. Moreover, they say by using 32 feet of US Coast Guard approved closed cell styrofoam the Panther has been made virtually unsinkable.
The Panther weighs 1338 kg and can carry 4 passengers.
WaterCar has not revealed how much the Panther would cost yet.
Priced appropriately, WaterCar Panther looks like a versatile vehicle that can be the only car we would need for a weekend outing.
