Maruti Suzuki did make it known earlier that it is development team is working on a few new diesel engine units which would go into the next gen models of existing cars. One of those diesel engines, if a recent rumor is to be believed, could make its appearance sooner than thought. As soon as the start of the festive season.
A TeamBHP report claims to have learned from Maruti Suzuki sources that a new twin cylinder turbocharged is ready to make its way into the Wagon R. The report further states that the car with the new diesel unit will go into production in a few weeks time and dealer level staff are already being trained to service the new unit. The 800cc twin cylinder turbo diesel is also said to have an ARAI certified mileage of 25 kmpl.
At first it might seem its too soon for a brand new engine to be launched. But then again, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R StingRay is also expected to be launched in the coming weeks. Could it be possible that the StingRay will come with the said diesel engine? It certainly fits the bill.
The Wagon R at present, uses a 1 liter K series engine which is provided in every version but diesel. The Wagon R Stingray with a turbocharged diesel would fill in that gap. Also to be kept in mind is that Hyundai will launch the Grand i10 on September 3rd. Launch of the turbo diesel Wagon R StingRay at the same time will be the perfect way to steal Hyundai's thunder.
