India is one of the fastest growing bus markets in the world. Volvo has realized the potential of the fast growing Indian bus market. The Swedish Bus manufacturer, is now looking at launching a ‘Value' Bus brand in India. Currently, Volvo has premium and city buses muscling the Indian bus market. The new ‘Value' Brand bus, will be positioned between the premium and traditional bus segments.
Volvo plans to launch these ‘Value' brand buses by 2014. Volvo believes there is a clear space for this new product and estimates a production of 10,000 units of these buses a year. The ‘Value' buses are expected to retail at Rs 40 to 60 lakh range and aims to capture 20 to 25% market share in this segment.
From the investment front, the company had announced a Rs 400 crore investment almost a year ago towards capacity expansion. Volvo India for the moment is on the right track and have successfully rolled-out all models unveiled during the Auto Expo 2012.
