Upcoming Cars In India; New Car Launches Scheduled

Did you think fuel prices, always eager to touch new heights, fresh duty on automobiles and the generally weaker global auto industry would negatively influence the launch of new cars in India? You could not have been more mistaken. In fact, it seems to be the opposite.

Car manufacturers are searching for new avenues where none existed before. They have forged new partnerships to better cope with the problems at hand. And there are more new car launches scheduled than ever before. Lets us take a look at some of the upcoming cars that will hit Indian shores in the near future.

Datsun GO+

Expected Launch Date: Could happen by mid-2014
Expected Price: INR 5.5 lakhs (In Indonesia)

Datsun GO+, the MPV based on the GO hatch, is a low cost, sub-4 meter vehicle. It is powered by the same 1.2 liter petrol engine as the GO and Micra ad its target will be the Ertiga and Enjoy.

Honda Jazz

Expected Launch Date: Late 2014 or early 2015
Expected Price: N/A

2014 Honda Jazz is already on sale in Japan as the Fit. The new Jazz comes with a significantly refreshed design over the older generation. The Jazz was discontinued from India owing to poor sales. Honda is hoping the fresh take on the premium hatch will appeal to Indian buyers.

Honda Mobilio

Expected Launch Date: Mid-2014
Expected Price: INR 10-15 lakhs

Mobilio is Honda's take on the Brio based MPV. The Mobilio is already on sale in Indonesia where it has been well accepted. The premium MPV will make it to India in Q2 of 2014, giving stiff competition to Toyota Innova and Maruti Ertiga.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

Expected Launch: Late 2014 or 2015
Expected Price: INR 30 lakhs - INR 40 lakhs

Indians have been expecting brand Jeep to make its ‘Grand' re-entry into India for more than a year now. The Grand Cherokee was expected to arrive in India in late 2013. That seems unlikely now. We expect Jeep Grand Cherokee to be unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo followed by a launch soon after. Grand Cherokee is likely to be offered with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel generating 237 HP and 549 Nm torque.


Jeep Wrangler

Expected Launch: Late 2014 or 2015
Expected Price: INR 35 lakhs - INR 50 lakhs

Jeep Wrangler has inherited the toughness of the Jeeps from yesteryears. The Wrangler is ever off-road enthusiasts dream SUV and is offered in both two door and four door variants. All wheel drive is delivered via the Jeep Command-Trac system. For India, the Wrangler is likely to come with the 2.8 liter diesel mill delivering 200 PS and 460 Nm of torque.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

Expected Launch Date: Late 2014 or 2015
Expected Price: Around INR 10 lakh

Maruti Suzuki's planned replacement for the SX-4, the Ciaz, showcased in Delhi in February, is based on the Authentics concept and was recently previewed in Beijing where it is called the Alivio. The Ciaz will be powered by a 1.5-litre 16-valve, four cylinder petrol engine and will sport a newly developed six-speed automatic transmission. The car measures 4,545 mm long and the focus will be on ample interior space and legroom.

Tata Bolt

Expected Launch Date: In a few months time
Expected Price: Over 4 lakh

Tata Bolt is an extensively revised, redesigned and updated Vista. The Bolt will be the first in a line of products from a rejuvenated and modernised Tata Motors trying to give itself an image makeover. The Bolt will thus shed the taxi car image of the Vista and will have a more premium look and will have an overall better build quality.

Tata Zest

Expected Launch Date: In a few months time
Expected Price: Around INR 5 lakh

Tata Zest is the compact sedan version of the Bolt and is intended to be the replacement to the Manza. The Zest will be a lot like the Bolt, but apart from the added boot to differentiate it, the car will also be more premium and will feature plenty of equipment.

Fiat Avventura

Expected Launch Date: Second half of 2014
Expected Price: Around INR 7 lakh

The Punto based Avventura can be described as a contemporary urban vehicle that's meant to be driven in urban environment despite its rugged looks. Increased ride height, protections mouldings and bumpers, a spare tyre and roof mounted racks still mean you can get a little adventurous with this vehicle.

Toyota Etios Cross

Expected Launch Date: In a few days (bookings open)
Expected Price: Around INR 6 lakh

Like the Avventura, the Etios Cross is a rugged, crossover version of the Etios Liva. The Etios Cross is mainly differentiated by the black mouldings that surround the entire lower portion of the car, large bumpers, increased ride height and roof mounted rails.
