The upcoming Skoda SUV is said to be based on the Volkswagen CrossBlue Concept, a large SUV that is set to launch in 2015. Both these models will share the group's MQB platform, the largest version of it.
The report further claims the large Skoda SUV will measure around 4.6 meters in length, will be offered in five seat and seven seat configurations and will be come in both front and all wheel drive versions.
Skoda will position the vehicle above VW Taigun and will pit it against the likes of Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe.
The SUV is still far from completion though, having only reached the full size clay model stage at Skoda's design studio. Simultaneously, engineering development is being conducted.
According to Skoda technical head Frank Welsch, the upper limit for the engine to be used will be 2.0 liter, four cylinder units, while the base unit is likely to be a 1.6 liter turbo diesel. Apart from these, the SUV will come in a diesel engined hybrid variant.
The only thing about the design part that's known as of now is what Skoda design chief Josef Kaban has said: "Larger Skodas like this will employ bolder, more provocative styling - slightly different from the mainstream."
AutoCar UK also claims, apart from the large SUV, Skoda is also planning a third, smaller SUV that will join the Yeti family. And that this model will feature a "more traditional SUV appearance".
