Isuzu MU-7 is powered by a 3.0 liter, 4 cylinder diesel engine that generates 163 PS power and 360 Nm of torque, coupled to a 5 speed manual transmission. The SUV will be available in three colours - black, white and silver.
The MU-7 is the first locally built SUV from Isuzu. The SUV will be initially assembled in India, with CKD parts coming from its Thailand facility. Also joining the MU-7 will be its D-max pickup truck. The two vehicles will be assembled by Hindustan Motors in its Thiruvallur plant, near Chennai.
However, once Isuzu sets up its own full fledged manufacturing facility at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh production will shift there. Isuzu's independent facility is scheduled to begin operation by 2016 and will be constructed with an investment of INR 3,000 crores. The new facility will have a production capacity of 1,20,000 vehicles.
Once full scale production begins in 2016, Isuzu plans to sell up to 5,000 units annually. The company, which only has 2 dealerships currently plans to increase that number to 60 by 2016. Beware, Toyota, Ford and Hyundai.
