Indian Car Of The Year 2014 - Hyundai Grand i10 Grabs Coveted Title
Hyundai Grand i10 has been awarded the 2014 JK Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) title. The Grand i10 clinched the title by pushing aside some tough competition that included Honda Amaze and Ford EcoSport.
Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) is held in line of similar awards such as American Car of the Year, European Car of the Year and Japanese Car of the Year. ICOTY aims to promote competition among local car manufacturers, drive innovation, and recognise good products, design excellence and innovation.

The 2014 ICOTY award was given to Hyundai Grand i10 by OVERDRIVE executive editor Vikrant Singh, BBC TopGear India editor Girish Karkera and JK Tyre & Industries Limited president and director Arun K Bajoria.
Of the several Indian cars that were in the run for the recognition, 7 models were finalized. Hyundai Grand i10, Honda Amaze and Ford EcoSport made it to the top 3. Other cars that were shortlisted include BMW 1 series, Chevrolet Enjoy, Mahindra Verito Vibe, Mercedes-Benz GL350, Nissan Terrano and Skoda Octavia.
The jury for the 2014 ICOTY awards consisted of Girish Karkera and Sriram Narayanan (BBC TopGear), Vikrant Singh, Bertrand D'Souza and Subhabrata Marmar (OVERDRIVE), Yogendra Pratap and Rahul Ghosh (Auto Bild), Bob Rupani and Gautam Sen (Auto India), Dhruv Behl and Ashish Jha (AutoX), Pablo Chatterji, Rohin Nagrani and Kartik Ware (Motoring), Aspi Bhathena and Sarmad Kadiri (Car India & Bike India), Sirish Chandran (Evo India) and Muralidhar Swaminathan (Hindu Business Line).
Launched in September this year, the Grand i10 is the next gen i10 internationally, that's being sold as a separate model in India. The Grand i10 is slightly larger and more spacious than the international 2013 i10 model. The hatchback which offers an extra choice for buyers looking for a modern car in this price range scored high on several categories on which the cars were rated. These include price, fuel efficiency, styling, comfort, safety, performance, practicality, and technical innovation, value for money and suitability for Indian driving conditions.
Hyundai Grand i10 now joins the ICOTY winners from previous year which were the following: Renault Duster (2013), Maruti Suzuki Swift (2012), Ford Figo (2011), Tata Nano (2010), Honda City (2009), Hyundai i10 (2008), Honda Civic (2007) and Maruti Suzuki Swift (2006).
