Honda Jazz, Japan’s Best Selling Car In Two Months
The 2014 Honda Jazz, sold as Fit in Japan, has surpassed all expectations held by the car maker in terms of sales in its home market. The all new Fit bearing Honda's new ‘Exciting H Design' was launched in the island country on September 5th and its taken just two months for the hatch to settle on top.
The first month since launch saw the Japanese book over 62,000 units, which was quite a lot more than what Honda had expected. Honda then went on to deliver 19,388 units of the Jazz, which made it the third highest selling car that month behind Toyota Aqua and Toyota Prius, both of which garnered 26,543 and 23,069 unit sales respectively.
October saw Honda sell 23,281 Jazz. Meanwhile, Toyota sold 20,886 and 19,984 units of the Prius and Aqua respectively. Toyota Aqua, also called Prius C, is a compact version of the Prius Hybrid.
It is easy to make out how much the Japanese love hybrids when the country's top three best selling cars are hybrids. That's right, 70 percent of all Jazz sold were the top of the line Jazz S hybrid variant.
The hybrid Jazz comes powered with a 1.5 liter i-VTEC petrol engine in conjunction with an electric motor, delivering a mileage of over 36 kmpl.
Honda will launch the 2014 Jazz in India next year. The car will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2014 which will take place in Feb. There will be no hybrid variant of course. Instead, there will be a diesel engine for the first time, along with a petrol engine.
