GM India Recalls 4000 Chevrolet Sail Units
GM India is not done with recalling its vehicles. Post the massive recall of 1.14 lakh Tavera MPVs in July the automaker has now issued a recall of the diesel variants of Sail hatchbacks and compact sedans. A total of 4000 units are affected.
It has been made clear that while the recall is due to a defect in the engine, it is not way a safety related issue. Also, at the same time, it is not similar to the problem faced with the Tavera BS3 and BS4 engines.
"As part of its commitment to quality and satisfying its customers, General Motors on Monday announced that it is voluntarily recalling 4,000 units of the hatchback and notchback diesel variants of the Chevrolet Sail to address a potential engine issue which is not safety related," ET quotes a GM spokesperson as having said.
"Our customers are at the center of everything we do," said P Balendran, GMI vice-president. "Quality is our highest priority. If there is an issue, we ensure that it is corrected as soon as possible as part of our complete commitment to customer satisfaction," he added.
General Motors had stopped production of all Sail models on June 3 citing quality issues. However, production is now back on track and owners affected by the recall will be informed individually and their cars will be serviced free of cost at GM India services centers across the country.
While the recall of the Sail hatchback and notchback may not be a major one, it will nevertheless dent the already crumbling image of GM India, which received a major blow post the Tavera incident.
