Chevrolet Tavera, Sail Diesel Production Halted?
The affected models include Chevrolet Tavera BS-III and the diesel variants of the newly launched Sail sedan and the Sail UV-A hatchback. It is not known what the exact issue is, but according to AutoX, the problem in the Tavera is related to emissions, while in the Sail it has something to do quality issues with the diesel engine. However, AutoX says GM has made it clear that the issues are not safety related.
The Sail diesel models are powered by a 1.3 liter engine, which is similar to the Multijet engine used by Fiat. Additionally, this 1.3 liter diesel unit is used across Chevrolet lineup, including in the new Enjoy MPV. But as of now there is no mention of the Enjoy. Production will commence once the issue has been sorted out.
The engine issue, if true, has come at a time when the American brand was recovering well owing to the introduction of the diesel variants of the Sail. Along with the Enjoy, the diesel variants have helped push units in recent months.
We have learned from a Chevrolet Bangalore dealership that they have not been directed to stop selling the above mentioned models, at least just yet. We'll keep you updated as and when we receive more information on the matter.
