The Tata Nano which was once considered to be a revolutionary car in the Indian automobile history turned out only to be just another car. With sales volumes not being anywhere close to encouraging Tata Motors was forced to look in to improving the Nano range of cars and the result is new variants powered by CNG and diesel.

The Tata Nano CNG was first displayed that the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. Many of us were expecting the carmaker to launch the diesel variant but were happy to see a Nano that was cheaper to run and hence attractive to the consumer.

The launch of the Nano CNG could soon be followed by the launch of the diesel powered Nano.

Recent reports about the Tata Nano CNG indicate the small car is being tested extensively. The Nano CNG is not only being tested inside the confines of Tata Motors plant in Sanand but also on public roads.

The Tata Nano CNG will not be a single fuel car. It will be a dual fuel car with the capacity to sun on both petrol and CNG. Indianautosblog has posted that the Tata Nano CNG will have a litre CNG tank along with a petrol tank. This will mean the Nano CNG can offer a stress free drive even if it runs out of CNG.

Sources say the Tata Nano CNG could be launched this festive season by Diwali. Since CNG is not available across the country, Tata Motors is expected to launch the Nano CNG only in regions such as Delhi -NCR, Mumbai, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, where the fuel is available.

The Tata Nano CNG's engine will be the same 650cc engine seen in the regular petrol variants. There will be a slight dip in power while running on CNG but on the positive side, the running costs will be very low.
